The custom of lighting a yahrzeit candle is known to anyone who has experienced loss. A sculptural object containing the standard yahrzeit candle transforms the alienated object into a unique element with a personal expression.
I started the object in a place of fragmentation and destruction and used rusty iron parts I found at a waste site to build a composition that acted as a starting point for the bronze cast. The Material processing of the object and the patina finish resembling corrosion relate to the passing of time. By using the way in which we translate in our collective memory rusty metal, candle flames and the flickering of shadows in the dark, I intensify entering the world of memories. Through the fragments, the cracks and the layers of time that appear in the rusty metal, emerges the light of the candle – warm and comforting..
